Old Water Heaters Waste Energy and Comfort

Outdated units raise costs and reduce hot water supply

You know something’s off when your morning shower starts hot then turns lukewarm halfway through. Or when you run the dishwasher and suddenly nobody else can use hot water for twenty minutes.

Water heaters don’t just quit one day – they give you hints first. Takes longer to heat up. Temperature bounces around. Maybe you notice rusty-colored water, or that puddle forming near the base that you keep meaning to check on.

Most tank water heaters last somewhere between eight and twelve years. Dallas’s hard water can cut that shorter. So can poor installation from whoever put it in originally, or just never flushing the sediment that builds up at the bottom.

When one finally dies, it’s not just inconvenient. A leaking water heater can dump gallons of water before you even realize what’s happening.
